Interested in improving your writing skills? Learn how to write effective resumes, cover letters, scholarship essays, school writing assignments, family histories, and more. The Community Writing Center at the Orem Public Library provides FREE writing resources for people of all ages from the Utah Valley community.

Funded through a grant from the Center for Engaged Learning at Utah Valley University (UVU), the Community Writing Center will offer personalized coaching sessions, providing focus and direction on written content, proofreading, and writing techniques. Group workshops will run approximately 45 minutes and will include presentations, demonstrations, and practice of specific writing principles. These workshops will be instructed by UVU’s writing coaches and faculty members. Topic suggestions and special interests are welcomed.

Spring hours for one-on-one sessions begin Monday, February 13, 2012:
Monday — 2 pm to 7 pm
Tuesday — 2 pm to 7 pm
Thursday — 2 pm to 7 pm
Friday — 12 noon to 4 pm
Closed Sundays and holidays.
Appointments preferred. Walk-ins welcome.

  • Anyone interested in improving his or her writing skills at any level or stage of writing.

What do I need to bring with me to the Community Writing Center?
  • Bring a copy of your writing, your questions and/or concerns, the assignment sheet (as appropriate), and the desire to become a better writer.

What kind of writing projects can I get help with?
  • School writing assignments, job resumes and cover letters, scholarship or college entrance essays, your personal or family history, and more.

Do I have to bring a completed draft?
  • We help patrons at any stage of the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising, final editing, etc.

Do I have to be enrolled at UVU or in an English class to get help at the Community Writing Center?
  • No! We help patrons working on assignments in any subject and encourage patrons to produce high-quality work for anything they are writing.
